Do I need a referral to see an Osteopath?

No, you don’t need to get a referral from your GP to see an osteopath. Osteopaths are primary health care providers, so all you need to do is give us a ring or book online if you would like to see an osteopath.

What should I expect on the first visit?

You should expect your first visit to run a little longer, expecting it to be 45 minutes – 1 hour.
During this visit you will be asked to fill out a new patient intake form with your personal details and basic medical history. Once in with your practitioner a detailed case history will be taken about the complaint you have come in to discuss. They will also ask questions about your general medical history to create a detailed overview of your health. Once this has finished, a physical examination will take place – that might involve looking at your movement, strength tests and specific tests to help create a diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been formed, typically hands on treatment is performed and then to end the session you may be given a few exercises to start doing at home.

How many appointments will I need?

There is no simple answer for this, the number of appointments needed depends on your specific presentation to the osteopath. During your first appointment your osteopath will discuss a treatment plan tailored to your specific condition.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Osteopathy is a hands on modality, wear something you find comfortable to your appointment.
You will most likely be asked to remove some layers of clothing depending on the area of concern, if you are comfortable to do so. You can also bring some shorts or stretchy pants to change into, to make yourself more comfortable.

Can I use private health for Osteopathy?

Yes, If your private health cover includes Osteopathy you can claim it. You can also claim your private health insurance on the spot with our HICAPS machine.

What qualifications does an osteopath have?

Osteopaths are university trained professionals, Osteopaths must undergo a 4-5 year degree in order to qualify as an Osteopath. Once qualified they must complete 25 hours a year of continued professional development to make sure they stay up to date with the constantly changing research.

We also accept third party payments through DVA, TAC and Work Cover.

If you have been referred by your GP on a medicare plan there is a gap fee. Medicare covers $60.34, the gap fee for an initial appointment is $59.66 and for follow up appointments is $34.66.
